Aero- INTEL 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset fails to work

In spite of the "Upgrade Adviser" advising that my system and the abovementioned display adapter would support AERO AND that an upgraded display adapter device driver would be available on installing Vista, I see (1) that I cannot activete the transparency effects (the GUI just freezes) and (2) Vista tells me that a driver 6.14.10.4440 dated 2005/12/05 is the latest updated driver! What gives? This is clearly misrepresenting the facts. -- IT guy in South Africa

I have mine working and I suggest that you do the following. You need to download and install the 4543 driver dated 3/23/06 for your 82945 Graphics chip from the Intel Website. You also may need to update your BIOS (I did) and you need to allocate 128MB of main memory to your graphics chip from the BIOS. I also needed to upgrade from 512MB of main memory to 1GB but I have heard that this may not be required but at the moment I don't know a workaround. After all is done you may not be impressed with Glass since the content part of a Web page is not done with Glass just the borders.

I have mine working and I suggest that you do the following. You need to install the LakeaPort drives for your 82945G Graphics chip look for them on the Intel Website, mine are the 4349 version dated 5/2/2006. They might also have been installed on your Vista system by WinUpdate. So you might just try having Vista search for drivers on your system disk using device manager You also may need to update your BIOS (I did) and you need to allocate 128MB of main memory to your graphics chip from the BIOS. There was a bug in a previous version of Upgrade Advisor that, under some circumstances, would incorrectly report that systems with the Intel 915 graphics chip set were Aero-capable. This is fixed in the latest version of Upgrade Advisor.
At this time there the "official" word from Intel is that the 915 chip set and driver will not support Aero.

Today I resinstalled Vista Beta 2 on a reformatted disk partition due to problems I was having with my tuner card. During the installation I asked it to install any updated drivers available over the Internet. When the installation was complete my system came up immediatly with Glass using the latest Glass Lakeport drivers available from Intel for my 945G chipset which is the graphics chip that is part ot the 915/950 graphics capable Intel MOBO. I did not have to do anything to make it happen since the latest Beta 2 updates apparently contain the latest Vista Beta2 945G graphic drivers from Intel. So that makes it sound like the Upgrade Advisor is correct if used only with a new installation and not one from a couple of weeks ago.

I don't know how many time I have to say the same thing and it is really what the OP said in his first post and is the subject of this thread. If you have have the Intel 950/915 video support on your MOBO and you go to device manager (like I have on my MOBO 915/950 )you will hopefully find that the actual graphics chip that is on your system is the 82945G chip. It is certainly not a 910 or the 950 graphics chip since AFAIK there is no such thing. So all of you that have 950/915 grahics on your MOBO like I do and who find in Devide Manager that the actual graphics chip is other than the 92945G chip I wish you would state what you have instead of guesing what it is.
